At the heart of a decentralised district energy network, Barking Energy Centre powers over 10,000 homes and saves 12,000 tonnes of carbon annually. United Anodisers partnered with Central Fabrications Midlands Ltd to create a bespoke UnAtex 2131 anodised finish—engineered for long-term performance in a demanding C4 industrial environment.
Project Details
For this high-profile civic project, United Anodisers produced and tested a range of samples, varying reflectivity and textured designs to achieve a finish unique to the scheme. The 3,000m² of cladding panels are all finished to BS3987 and their unique UnAtex finish is guaranteed for 25 years against weathering and corrosion.
The robust, low-maintenance system forms the visible “armour” for an innovative building where function is celebrated: pipes, flues, and heat stores remain on display and the adjacent Visitor Centre welcomes the public to see the energy infrastructure in action. The end result is a durable, modern, and highly technical envelope that underpins the sustainability ambitions of Barking and Dagenham’s ground-breaking infrastructure.
