City of Glasgow College’s Riverside Campus forms a distinctive civic landmark at the gateway to central Glasgow. Designed by Michael Laird Architects and Reiach and Hall Architects, the project delivers a contemporary response to the city’s maritime and educational heritage. Its beautiful architecture and advanced specification helped earn it a place as a finalist for the RIBA Stirling Prize and win BCI Building Project of the Year in 2016.
Designed around two grand civic spaces—a cloistered garden and a soaring hall—the campus encourages cross-disciplinary interaction and showcases a learning landscape visible through expansive, gridded glass façades.
The project features anodised aluminium fins and panels fabricated by Structal UK that were finished in Anolok® 541 Pale Umber to provide depth, durability, and contemporary character to the elevations.
Engineering and nautical workshops, teaching spaces, and the halls of residence now all benefit from abundant daylight and panoramic views across the Clyde and the city. The finished campus, completed in just 18 months on site, has become a celebrated centre for maritime and technical education.
Our Anolok® 541 Pale Umber finish was selected for its durability and fade resistance, delivering a warm, cohesive aesthetic that is inherently low maintenance and suited to civic-scale architecture. The anodised aluminium delivers a consistent metallic sheen that is resilient even in Glasgow’s demanding riverfront environment.
